Loneliness is a contemporary disease. In my work of the outside worlds she takes an important place.
I used totally abandoned landscapes as I knew them from Bonaire, where I lived for many years, as metaphors for solitude, memories of desolate worlds. A large part of the Caribbean island, nature reserve, was scanty, blood beautiful, with few people or sometimes a single human being that I consciously placed in the abandoned area. If you admire these empty worlds, you start to notice how full they are, filled with color, shape, mystery, a rare tree or trees, withered flowerings, creatures, birds and rocks, memories of the past: petroglyphs of the Arawaks.
The emptiness is full, filled with not immediately remarked presence, strange skies and clouds, lonely beauty.

Brittany’s nature is a powerful primeval element, especially the ocean that violently crashes against the rocks and the seashore, but also leads to magnificent beaches and islands. That fascination for sand and water is visible in my works‘; the remarkable daily occurring sandy connection of the mainland to the island of Raquenez is the theme. The tide exposes the corridor or closes it at moment’s notice. This rhythm repeats itself every six hours and gives the passageway a very significant charm, where people repetitively discover small crustaceans, shells, wondrous rocks and creeks, spending hours in exploration, fascinated by all treasures that wash up from the sea, which are never identical.

A particularly beautiful statue of a couple on Tahiti beach in Raquenez, where dunes line a stretch of beach. clearly visible here in this statue.The technique is very special. The drawing is done in red lines, marker, gives a powerful expression to the scene. The drawing was then washed with watercolor paint. Something between drawing and watercolor. To my surprise I found the same technique in old vases from the time of Alexander the Great, in the Nieuwe Kerk in Amsterdam; from more than 2000 years ago. Astonishing !

Here the place where people embarked to go to the yacht at sea. The beautiful blue space and the smallness of the figures in the foreground give an idea of color and space. These watercolors are also a test to fix the drawing in different colors, which constitutes the character of the work. Sometimes it is recorded in black, blue or red marker, quite unusual as it is usually done in pencil. So not here. I wanted to test how the image pleased me the most.
